5 REITs worth taking a look 
1. On top of the heap is Ascendas Real Estate Investment Trust (SGX: A17U). The REIT, which invests mostly in industrial properties, has a market cap of $7.5 billion and a yield of 6.1%. Over the last three years, the REIT has recorded a total return of 32.6%.
2. Retail mall owner CapitaLand Mall Trust (SGX: C38U) is in second place with a market cap of $6.95 billion. It has a distribution yield of 5.7% and has recorded a total return of 14.7% over the past three years.
3. Another CapitaLand entity, CapitaLand Commercial Trust (SGX: C61U), weighs in at third place with a market cap of $4.8 billion. The commercial properties owner has recorded a three-year total return of 19.6% over the same period and has a distribution yield of 5.6%.
4. Suntec Real Estate Investment Trust (SGX: T82U) slips in at fourth place with a market cap of $4.47 billion. The REIT owns a big stake in Suntec City which has a mixture retail tenants and office tenants. Suntec REIT offers a yield of 5.7% and has a three-year total return of 19.0%.
5. Mapletree Commercial Trust (SGX: N2IU) rounds up the list with a market cap of $4.45 billion. The owner of the iconic VivoCity and a few other commercial properties has a distribution yield of 5.4% and has registered a total gain of 40% over the last three years.

The country that has the highest average yielding reit is...

Today's article will be a little bit more fun. We will be comparing some of highest yielding reits in Australia, Singapore, Canada, US and see which country gives the highest dividend average yield to it's unitholders. 

With that said, let's start with Australia's real estate investment trusts, also known as 'A-reits'. There are more than 54 reits in Australia and here are the top 20 highest yielding A-reit.

And to answer the question, which country has the highest average yielding reit is none other than the United States! (*cue the applause)  


What can we get out of these findings? 

As dividend hungry investors, does that mean we should move our money into US reits, since they give a better overall yield? 

The Answer: It is not that simple. 

A high yielding reit doesn't equate to an "overall good" reit. You need to put in the effort to dig deeper and find exceptional ones; reits that have been performing consistently, have assets located in promising areas, assets that are designed to add value to its tenants and so forth.
